We know that the high sugar contributes to obesity, contributes to the increases the risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, bone loss, caner, kidney stones and severe tooth decay. New research in the FASEB Journal shows that high levels of phosphate in sodas and processed foods accelerate the aging process in mice and contribute to age-associated complications such as chronic kidney disease.</p>
<p>As if we didn&#8217;t already have enough reason to stop drinking sodas and eliminate processed foods from our diet, here&#8217;s another one.  A new study published online in the FASEB Journal shows that high levels of phosphates may add more &#8220;pop&#8221; to sodas and processed foods than once thought. That&#8217;s because researchers found that the high levels of phosphates accelerate signs of aging. High phosphate levels may also increase the prevalence and severity of age-related complications, such as chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular calcification, and can also induce severe muscle and skin atrophy. </p>
<p>&#8220;Humans need a healthy diet and keeping the balance of phosphate in the diet may be important for a healthy life and longevity,&#8221; said M. Shawkat Razzaque, M.D., Ph.D., from the Department of Medicine, Infection and Immunity at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. &#8220;Avoid phosphate toxicity and enjoy a healthy life.&#8221; </p>
<p>To make this finding, Dr. Razzaque and colleagues evaluated the effects of high phosphate levels in three groups of mice. The first group of mice was did not have the particular gene, when absent, causes them to have extremely high levels of phosphate in their bodies that are toxic. They  lived 8 to 15 weeks. </p>
<p>A second group of mice was missing the gene and a second gene (NaPi2a), which when absent at the same time, substantially lowered the amount of phosphate in their bodies. These mice lived to 20 weeks. The third group of mice  like the second group (missing both genes), except they were fed a high-phosphate diet. All of these mice died by 15 weeks,  like those in the first group. </p>
<p>This suggests that phosphate has toxic effects in mice, and may have a similar effect in other mammals, including humans.</p>
<p>&#8220;Soda is the caffeine delivery vehicle of choice for millions of people worldwide, but comes with phosphorous as a passenger&#8221; said Gerald Weissmann, M.D., Editor-in-Chief of the FASEB Journal. &#8220;This research suggests that our phosphorous balance influences the aging process, so don&#8217;t tip it.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The carbohydrates are the main source of energy which fuels our body cells. There are two types of carbohydrates namely refined carbohydrates and unrefined natural carbohydrates.</p>
<p>Refined carbohydrates are found in refined white flour,sweets,ice cream etc..and are easily converted to glucose and quickly absorbed into the blood stream. This increased level of glucose in the blood stream triggers the production of insulin in pancreas to bring down the glucose levels in the blood stream. When glucose levels drop,the body cells and the brain cells are starved of glucose which is the source of energy. This causes the brain to activate the hunger center in the brain to order for more food consumption. The refined carbohydrates are also called bad carbohydrates because they are poor in fiber content</p>
<p>The insulin production in the body is increased due to excess food intake causes more rise in glucose levels. The excess calories are converted into fat and stored. When this process is repeated over a period of time the pancreas is weakened due to the continuous excess production of insulin and wears out resulting in less and less production of insulin leading to diabetes. The increased insulin production also inhibits the production of protein called glucagon the main job of which is to burn fat cells for energy. Due to low levels of this protein, the fat is stored,not burned.</p>
<p>The carbohydrates which are unrefined are called are called good carbohydrates because they take time to get converted into glucose. Good carbohydrates take time to get digested due to high fiber content causing more fat to be burned for the process of digestion. Good carbohydrates are absorbed into the blood stream gradually causing gradual increase of insulin levels. This low level of insulin production causes less fat storage. Besides good carbohydrates contain more fiber and fills the stomach quickly reducing the food intake.</p>
<p>Our health is compromised when we consume low carbohydrate diets. Contrary to popular belief low carbohydrate diets are harmful to health. Low carbohydrate diets make the body burn not only fat but also protein which is bad for the muscle tissues affecting muscle development. Prolonged intake of low carbohydrate diet may cause kidney and liver problems. A diet of good carbohydrate with low fat content is good for health.Low carbohydrate diets must be avoided at all costs.</p>
